I mad the Courtside Bag with this challenge.
I always look forward to making a ByAnnie bag.
This was a fairly challenging bag and I am very experienced in bag making.
I took about 10 days to make the bag. I did not work on it ALL day each day, just a few steps each day.
There is a date stamp on each of my photos so you can see what I did each day.
I picked a few fabrics from the Floral Fun Island Batik fabric line to make the Courtside Backpack.
I did make a change in that I did want a top zipper instead of a vertical zipper.
First up is quilting.
I LOVE the texture.
Cutting out all the parts can be daunting. This bag has A LOT of pieces. I decided to just take the bag one step at a time. These bags are fabulous and you have to trust the instructions. I am not necessarily a direction follower, but this is a place to FOLLOW all instructions in the order given. Every piece has a tag to say what it is. I use clips to keep the pieces organized.
2 things that are of most importance are the By Annie stiletto and the wonder clips. No other stiletto is the same. Just get 100 clips. Get some extra large clips as well. Pins really don't work here.
All the parts are prepared.
I did a front pocket variation, and the back has a luggage strap as well as backpack straps.
Here is the prep to add the zipper strap to the bag front and back. Lots of clips and lot of patience. Pins here will hurt you and poke you so much!
The inside is bound to finish the edges. This is the hardest part of the bag. I use 16 Schmetz needles to stitch in my Juki straight stitch sewing machine.
The last bit of binding can be a bit awkward.
Because it is hard to press the seams after it is done, I steam and add clips to get the bag to do what I want it to! I add way more clips after I took this picture.
This is a really big bag. This is my new bag next to my old travel backpack (which I loved!)
I am planning a trip that I will test its travelability.
What I love: The inside center is very big, with a full size zipper pocket on one side and some mesh short pockets on that pocket. The other side on the inside has some bellow pockets that would fit a bottle, or other large items.
Outside has a big zipper pocket on the front and a slip pocket with a magnet on the back.
There is room for a good sized water bottle on the outside. The bag matches the new paint on the outside of my house.
The back: I added clips to the backpack straps so when I have the bag over my luggage, I can tuck the straps into the slip pocket on the back.
If you wore this to a quilt show you could carry so many purchases.
Disclosure: The products featured here were provided to me free of charge by Island Batik, Schmetz Needles and By Annie
