Thread challenge with Aurifil and Island Batik!
This months challenge with Island Batik is to use the Aurifil Color builders Italian city curated thread groups to create an inspired quilt.
I may have take the challenge pretty literally!
These thread colors are just gorgeous!
For my inspiration, I chose a google image of Capri. I have not been to Capri, but have been right next to Capri on the Amalfi Coast.
I pulled all the fabrics that matched this picture.
I cut them into 1 1/4" strips and arranged their order.
I did not try to make the picture exactly, but more of a representation of what I saw.
I put one rocky boulder at the top right.
I stitched it together with some random color and fabric changes.
The goal is about 20" square. I did a light trim of the sides, then loaded to my quilting machine with a small piece of Hobbs batting.
My plan was to quilt each section with the thread that closely matched.
I did have to add a thread for the rocky area.
I used several computerized designs to quilt my scene.
I quilt on a HandiQuilter Forte with
I did change thread for each area.
When it was time to bind, I matched the binding to the quilt for each section.
I love love love the finished quilt! It did finish to 20".
Its 2022 and things are looking up! We still really need to find some joy. The bright colors and act of creating with fabric can bring so much joy in a stressful time. I will continue to create while I am beginning to travel and teach. Follow me on Instagram to find more fun and colorful quilt projects (and some gardening and cooking too!). @bestquilter
